Rachel Akintola, President of Peculiar Scribes Institute and Awardee, Christian Blogger of the Year, opened the door connecting the restroom to her office and walked in with a purposeful stride.
The air conditioner was on and running, giving the room a cool atmosphere, and it helped ease her from all the brainstorming she had done while in the restroom.
She strolled up to her desk, unfastening the button on her jacket as she went, and sat in her chair.
As soon as she was seated, her eyes roamed to the table clock positioned nicely on one side of her table; it read 11:00am. It was the day scheduled for the next blog post, and she still hadn’t come up with something she wanted to write about.
She spun the executive leather office chair she sat on, as her mind rummaged through what her next piece would feature.
“Ko, ko, ko,” came the rap on the door, and she almost screamed. Make that the third time in a row. Didn’t Bisola understand she felt pressured?
“Calm down, Rachael.” She whispered to herself.
The door opened and her assistant walked in. Bisola knew her boss wasn’t idle about what was going on; she just understood the professional ramifications of failing to meet a schedule your subscribers were accustomed to. She couldn’t blame her.
The lady smiled nervously and said, “Ma, I wanted to know if you have been able to come up with something. We are supposed to publish a post by 1 p.m.”
Rachael sighed; “I know, Bisola. But God just hasn’t given me an idea. I’m still thinking; asking. ” She tapped her table thoughtfully.
“Okay ma,” Bisola replied.
Rachael watched as her assistant bit her lip as her habit when she was considering what to say.
“Ma, should I try updating some past content?”
Rachael nodded, “Yes. Let me know if you come up with anything. I know God will not leave me stranded. ”
“Yes Ma.” Bisola smiled assuredly before turning to leave. She watched as he stepped out and closed the door behind her.
“God, should we not publish anything today?”
“Please let someone send us their story, testimony, anything.” She tilted her head to one side as she spoke.
She heard him.
“Okay.” She settled herself comfortably in her chair as she let her eyelids find each other as she tried to meditate.
“Ma, …” The door creaked open.
“Bisola?” She called with her eyes still shut.
“You are disturbing me. I already told you what to do.” She opened her eyes irritably.
“No, I didn’t come for that. We just received a message through our mail, Ma.”
A message? Had God answered so quickly?
“Okay, I will check it out. Thank you, dear. ”
“You are welcome, Ma.”
She didn’t even know when Bisola stepped out of the room as she prayed silently that the mail contained something that would be a lifesaver for her. She pulled her chair closer to her work table and switched on her laptop, which was in front of her.
She moved to quickly check the mail.
Her eyes caught the title:
“Abba woke me up at 2:00am to leave my hostel.”
Rachael adjusted her spectacles very well.
Abba? 2am? This was interesting.
Did God tell a female to leave her hostel at 2 am?
She just couldn’t assimilate that statement.
That was why she had been sent the mail, right? She seriously hoped this could serve as her next blog post. She dove in immediately.
…
Good Day Ma.
My name is Ise-Oluwa and I am so excited to share my story with you.
I am a frequent visitor to your blog, so I know you provide an avenue for people to share their testimonies.
I am a graduate student of the prestigious Ladoke Akintola University in Oyo State. I graduated this year, but even though the ASUU Strike is ongoing, I am currently in school as I have some things to clear up.
It was Thursday the 13th of May, when I went for an evening meeting and our parish pastor spoke on evangelism. The word really came from a burdened heart, and as he spoke, a burden was passed to the congregation.
I realised I had relaxed greatly in the act of soul winning, so I cried to God that evening.
I went back home with a renewed zeal to preach the gospel. I have always been a lover of morning cries, so I decided to go for one around 6:am the next morning rather than the usual 5am since the school area was deserted. I ate my dinner, set my alarm, prayed, and went off to sleep.
Around 1:30am, I left someone tap me. It felt so real that I woke up abruptly. I was alone in the room; so I sat up immediately, a little bit scared.
The morning cry came to my mind, but it couldn’t be 6 a.m. yet. I fell asleep for not too long. I checked my time and my thoughts were confirmed.
I was confused. Past experiences already made me know it was God who woke me. But why?
I decided to go back to sleep to see what would happen again. I laid down again.
I was still trying to sleep when I heard another tap, this time urgent.
Since I wasn’t deeply asleep, I opened my eyes. I sat up. God knew I was tired as I slept very late. He should just let me wake up at 4 am then. I debated it within me.
“Okay, God, what do you want me to do?” I asked quietly as I scratched my body that was not itching me.
I smiled, “Okay, Sir.”
“Henn! Morning Cry? ‘Lago melo’? (At what time?)” This was exactly what crossed my mind.
It was just a few minutes to two. What kind of morning cry will I say I am doing with the present situation of society and the fact that the school area was deserted?
Oh, no! God will not tell me to go outside at this time. “Wisdom is profitable to direct.”
“This conversation is over.” I said as I laid back to sleep.
I felt like he was just watching and looking at me. I tossed and tossed, but I couldn’t sleep.
Go outside at 2am? God wouldn’t want me to risk my life now.
My mind was heavy, and to ease the pressure I was feeling, I picked up my phone to play a song. Immediately, I opened Boom Play and I clicked the play button. The song “I will follow by Dunsin Oyekan started praying. I started singing along without thinking.
“Wherever you go, I’ll go;
Whatever you say Lord, I’ll do;
I’m available, I’m dependable, I’m reliable;
Master, I’m ready…”
I grimaced and quickly picked up my phone and clicked ‘next’ to change the song.
As soon as the instrumental of the song was playing, I realised it was a hymn: “O Jesus, I have promised.”
It was all a sign, and I was not convenient any longer. “Does God really mean it?” I wondered.
I heard it again, and this time his voice held urgency.
Hmm. What if something bad happened soon and God was trying to rescue me?
With that thought, I jumped up.
I went to the bathroom to wash my face.
As I was doing so, it occurred to me that I should leave messages for two of my mentors. I located their contact and typed:
I sent it to two of them.
With that done, I dressed up and made sure to protect myself against the cold using my head warmer and cardigan. I grabbed my Bible from the table and stepped out.
As I closed the door, I prayed; “God, I know you won’t put me in danger. Like Abraham, I am trusting you. Be with me. ”
No response for about 3 seconds;
“Miracle’s hostel? Why? ”
“Well, at least I know where I am going.” I whispered.

I started to walk out of the compound when my phone rang; it was one of the people I had messaged.
I answered the call, “Hello Daddy.”
“I got your text. Where are you now?”
I sighed; “I am just going to the front of my friend’s hostel.”
“Hmmm. Was that the instruction? ”
“Yes, Sir. Daddy, did I wake you up?
“No, I was just trying to go back to bed when I felt like checking my phone where I was charging it.”
“I would have just left the text till daybreak, but you crossed my mind while I and my wife were praying last night, and I even raised a prayer request for you as I felt led. Seeing your text meant something, I had to check it and call you immediately. ” He explained.
“Oh. Well, thank God. ” It meant God was really in charge.
He continued, “The prayer we prayed was that God would give you the grace to obey if he asked something of you. I am confident that God is in this. As a means of security reasoning, I want you to stay on this call. I will listen to whatever is happening.”
I relaxed greatly at that moment; “Thank you, Sir. I will be going towards the hostel now. ”
“Relax, God is with you. And I will be here, okay. ” He emphasized.
I smiled; “Thank you very much, Sir.”
I smiled; God is very considerate.
“Oh! Okay.”
I stepped out of the hostel onto the tiled road and walked towards the building. I had not taken more than four full and quick strides since I was told to hurry when I began to hear foot steps behind me. I turned sharply, but I was the only one on the road.
I turned and started walking on. The footsteps resumed. “There is no mountain that we cannot move.” I started singing to calm my beating heart until I got to the front of the building. Then I stopped.
“All right. So here I am, Lord. Teach me what to say and let the reason you brought me here be accomplished.” I prayed silently.
Immediately after I finished the prayer and I wanted to start, I heard, “๐ฎ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐.”
“Yes, I know he does. ” I smiled.
I laughed. The only song that fit that description was one of the songs performed by one of the guest music ministers at a recent programme I attended. It filled my mind immediately, and I knew what God wanted me to do.
“God has a plan for you,” I started.
“No matter what the circumstance might be,
though you may not understand,
still your life is in his hands.
God has a plan for you.”
It was going well. My voice soon went higher and filled the street.
I continued, “He knows the past…” Suddenly, I saw the light of a room on the third floor of that hostel come up.
My voice wavered a bit but I continued;
“…He sees the future,
from start to finish,
the beginning and the end;
he doesn’t want to harm you…”
My eyes went to the window again and I saw the curtain had been tilted and someone was standing and watching me.
I continued;”… But only wants to give you hope. He wants to bless you over and over again.”
I heard the voice I had become familiar with saying.
I left a tingle from the top of my head to the soles of my feet as I began the song again. I felt different.
I kept my eye on that window for a few minutes before the person suddenly left.
This had always happened when we went for morning cries too, but someone who was awake at 2 am? Something was going on.
I continued singing and suddenly I heard the lock of the hostel being opened.
“Was the person coming out?” I wondered. The sound of my voice naturally decreased at this point as various thoughts crossed my mind.
I kept singing and watched as someone walked out of the hostel and towards me. I didn’t see his face for the first few seconds since it was dark in front of their hostel, but as the body built up, I saw the silhouette I had seen earlier.
“What are you doing?” The person asked sharply before he stepped into the limelight, and I saw his face well.
I stopped singing as I looked up at the face of a tall and huge guy. He was fair in complexion; he looked harmless, but his stature was intimidating.
At this point, my ears caught the voice of my mentor and his wife praying. Great.
“Morning cry.” I answered confidently.
He shook his head; “At this time? And where are the rest? ”
I chuckled; “The rest? I am the only one.”
He pouted, “They are cowards to have run away and left you alone. Because I saw them when I peeped and I saw you guys looking up. I think you were about 20 or so.”
I stood, stuck to the ground; “What was he saying?” I stared at him dumbstruck.
He really didn’t see my shocked look, or perhaps he did and chose to ignore it; “It was even your voices that made me leave what I was about to do.”
“I wondered if there was a vigil going on and remembered that there was no fellowship on this part of the street. I then decided to have a look. ”
“I see.” I nodded.
“But really, why did the rest run away because I was coming and you stayed?” He asked with concern.
“I am…” the only one, I wanted to say. But I stopped. Well, God is with me.
What about the voices he heard and the people he saw? What was happening?
I remembered the footsteps thundering behind me as I walked.
I gaped in wonder. Was it what I was thinking?
He cleared his throat, “You look thoughtful there. Anyway, thank God you are still here. I came to ask you something. ” His face suddenly looked sullen and his shoulders slumped.
“You said God has a plan for me? How are you sure he does? ” He asked.
“The hour has come; glorify yourself, Oh Lord.” I prayed within me before I opened my mouth; “Truly God has plans for each of us because we are not after thoughts.”
I looked up at him; “Why that question?”
He looked caught for a moment and like he wasn’t confident again.
I smiled in a bid to make him relax; “Odidi, big boy, please talk.”
He smiled painfully; “I had gone into the bathroom to slit my wrists really deep when I heard your voice.” I gaped at him in shock.
“If not for you, I would have bled a lot and probably be dead before daybreak.”
Tears churned in my eyes; “But why?”
“There is no hope for me again. You see, I grew up in a Christian home. My parents were rich.”
I noted the ‘were’. Either they were late or things weren’t the same for the family again.
“They gave me the best that any good parent would give. I eventually gave my life to Christ at 14 and all was going well. I was granted admission to Lautech and I settled in well with the help of my parents. ”
“I was doing great as I also joined the fellowship affiliated to my church here, but I am reserved, so they don’t really know me. I am presently in my third year. Well, Six months ago, tragedy struck. My parents died in a car accident on their way to a business conference. You need to see how relatives we had always loved and trusted plunged our parents’ properties despite our family lawyer’s effort.”
I shook my head. That always happened in this part of the world.
“My parents never envisaged death, so there was no prepared will. The only person who opened her arms to us is a surviving relative from Mom’s side, and she is a widow with five children. She was also dependent on my parents.”
“My parents had opened a bank account for our tuition fees in my name as the eldest child, and that is the only part of their funds we have access to. The truth is, if we know we want to graduate without challenges, we dare not use a dime of the money for something else. Our father’s lawyer wouldn’t even permit us.”
“Things became more difficult and I, who was actually managing my spiritual life, eventually backslided. I didn’t even know when I gave up my salvation. ”
“Everything has been tough. My younger sister has turned to something else. She is just in her first year and she has already become popular amidst guys. I feel terrible every time I see her. ”
“I tried doing part-time jobs during this strike period, but everywhere I go, I am rejected. They always say I look like someone who would cart their goods off one day. I wanted to learn online skills, but my Android phone got stolen, and I am currently using my roommate’s small phone. My laptop is also acting up, so everything is in a blink.”
“Eating is a challenge. I am supposed to be giving to my sister, but I beg from her. Honestly, I would have gone into this online fraud thing but one of my secondary school mates died strangely not too long ago. The image of how he died could not even make me develop the courage to go into it. I have friends who are into it, even with rituals, but I don’t want to die like Sanjo did. ”
“My health has been in shambles. I have an ulcer and it’s just somehow. Life is tiring, honestly.”
He stopped as if to catch his breath and looked up to catch my eye; “I have heard God has a plan for us. I know the Bible alright, but does he really have a plan for Daniel specifically?”
“Daniel, he does.” I whispered softly. “Your story is a very delicate one, and you have experienced a lot. However, I want you to know that God has a plan for you. If you look at the experiences you have had these past months carefully, you will see traces of God’s love and presence. You might have turned your back on him, but he hasn’t given up on you.”
“Part of his evidence of love for you is making me to be here now. I mean, who goes for a morning cry around 2am?” I chuckled. He looked at me thoughtfully.
“So all I am saying is God has not forgotten you. He has you in mind. He has everything that you need to go through life and succeed in his hands. He has not given up on you.”
“And Daniel, I just want you to know that ending your life is not a solution. Cutting short the fulfilment of your destiny is not an option. Any man who commits suicide has taken a life he can not create. God will not take it likely with the person, and the result is hell.”
“It is just not right to try to escape suffering here and then find yourself in a greater one; it just isn’t. God is the only one that can re-write your story and make roses bloom again.”
“I know that God will bless you if you give him a place in your heart once again. Come back to him. He is waiting for you. God is excited to start a lot of things in your life. He has a plan for you.”
“God has a plan for me.” He whispered to himself more than to me.
“Yes, he does.”
He nodded; “But really, even with that, I need any help I can get…”
I understood where he was going; “Daniel, why don’t we settle things with God first? Then we table our requests to him.”
He nodded, “Okay.”
“So are you ready to rededicate your life to him?”
“Yes.” He replied without hesitation.
“Great. I want you to begin to tell God you are coming back to him. Ask him to forgive you for going away. ”
I led him in other prayers as I was impressed in my heart. Daniel rededicated his life to God. I prayed for him, and I was so happy that the reason I stepped out into the cold had been fulfilled.
I looked up to a new and smiling Daniel. Did I add he looked more handsome and radiant too?
We exchanged contact information and I promised to visit him with some brothers during the day.
“Thank you very much for coming out at this time. I am so grateful. ” He said with a wide smile.
I nodded, “Glory be to God. Please always shut up the voice of the devil when he comes up with lies. Is your roommate a believer?” He needed someone close, and not just anyone.
“He is.”
“Wow. I think you can also talk with him if you feel you trust him. Talking with people really helps and so that he will be there to encourage you spiritually also. ” I advised.
“Alright, I will do that. Thank you very much. ”
“Since my mission is accomplished, I need to get going.” I was excited about all that happened, but God knows I needed a good sleep.
Daniel insisted on escorting me back to my hostel. As we bade each other good bye and I watched his retreating back, my heart swelled in gratitude to God. I could only heap praise on God for bringing a lost sheep back home.
I entered my room, locked the door behind me, and checked my phone to see I had a text from my mentor.
I jumped onto my bed excitedly and sang praises to God.
I could only feel God smile in satisfaction that the mission was successful.
That moment was a training moment for me. I realised that, as God’s child, he can beckon to me anytime he wants.
He can tell me to intercede for someone at any time. He can ‘disrupt’ my plans with his plans without my permission. If I am submissive to him, he will achieve great things in and through me.
Ma’am, It’s been 3 weeks since this experience and Daniel is growing in faith.
My mentor connected with him and they always have Bible study discussions and heart-to-heart sessions together. Since he is a male and wisdom is profitable to direct, I connected him with some brothers so they would always check up on him. This is a fine young man we are talking about. Smile.
We met yesterday for a Combined House Fellowship, and I was led to share my testimony with everyone to challenge them. I will never forget Daniel’s expression as he listened.
He eventually came to ask me a lot of questions and went on to thank me for being obedient to God.
His financial issues have also been sorted out to some extent as Daddy got him a job so that he can maximise this ASUU Strike and earn some money.
Did I mention Deborah, his younger sister, is already being influenced by her brother’s change of life? She was even at the meeting where I shared my testimony. She hasn’t made a decision to believe yet, but I know God will complete what he has started in her life.
The lesson I got from my experience is this:
Sometimes God’s instruction may not make sense to us and obeying him may not be so easy, but in the end, we will discover it was all to glorify himself in and through our life.
Seeing Daniel every time brings me joy and gratitude that I obeyed God.
This is my testimony, Mrs. Rachael Akintola, and I just want you to share it with people to challenge them.
Thank you for your good work.
God bless you abundantly.
Ise-Oluwa.
…..
Rachael had a wide smile on her face. “Thank you Jesus for this wonderful testimony.”
“Bisola,” she called out excitedly.
“Ma,” the lady entered, with a smile on her face.
“Have you read through the mail?”
“Yes Ma.”
“No wonder you have that big smile on your face. God just provided our next post. Edit it properly and send it to my mail immediately. ” She looked at the time; “It’s already 30 minutes to 1, and readers will be waiting.”
“On it, Ma.” Bisola replied as she turned to leave the office.
“God is faithful.” Rachael smiled as she twirled her chair around.
At exactly 1 pm, the edited and properly proofread write-up was published, and as if the Internet had been waiting, the story had more than 1,000 reads in about 20 minutes, with lots of comments and feedback.
Rachael nodded in satisfaction as she shut down her system and rearranged the documents on her work table. She could now focus on preparing the material for the Fiction Writing BootCamp ahead of her.

Like Daniel, if you are going through a tough time and you are already considering ending your life, be encouraged because God has a plan for you. Even if you can’t grasp a hold of the situation, Abba understands.
If you have not surrendered your life to him, please do so and watch him rewrite your story.
If you have let go of your salvation, come back to the cross. He is waiting for you.
Don’t give up on yourself when God has not given up on you.
I will be cheering for you.
