FRESH FIRE IN MY BONES (Episode 1)
Written by: Ebosa Monday
It was Friday. Damilola had slept off in his room, due to the busyness of the day. Suddenly, he jumped out of his bed. It was as if an invisible hand had pulled him.
He looked at his wall clock.
“Jesus! It’s 6:30pm! Ah! They must not meet me here!” He exclaimed silently as he packed his Bible and a few of his clothes. He opened the door of his room cautiously and tiptoed through the corridor that lead to the sitting room.
He could hear his father’s deep voice as he chanted some incantations. Slowly, Damilola walked towards the sitting room.
Fortunately for him, his mother was at the backyard with his two siblings, Adeyemi and Shade. They were preparing for the people that would come for the Weekend rituals that they always do every Friday.
He opened the door and step outside. As he assail to leave the compound, he heard Ronke, his next door neighbor, giggling. He was far older than her physically, but not spiritually.
The last thing Damilola would want to do was to engage in any exchange of words with Ronke. She was so evil one could perceive an evil aura around her.
“You want to escape the ritual? Where is your God? Come on, stay and let us see whether He will protect you.” she said laughing at Damilola.
Damilola didn’t bother to reply, he quietly left the compound.
Baba Aro (as he is popularly called) finished his incantations and preparations, he called out to Damilola.
“Dami… Dami….”
Mama Dami came into the house.
“He is in the room sleeping.” she said.
“Bring him out. He must pour the blood of the goat on the head of Orisa now, before the main ritual is done.” Baba Dami said.
Dami’s mother went inside the room, but couldn’t find him. She went to report the situation to him.
“What, woman? Your son left this house when he knows we are having the weekend ritual for the whole of Ogunja community today? This is becoming unbearable! I have tolerated this nonsense for too long!” He said and walked back to the shrine.
He shouted from the shrine, “Get Adeyemi here right now!”
Mama Dami quickly rushed outside to call Adeyemi.
“Bro Elijah, I don’t know what to do again. The darkness in that house is getting thicker every day!” Dami said mournfully.
He was in the house of his friend, Elijah, who had played a major role in his conversion.
“Dami, the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds. You have to be strong for you to withstand the powers in operation.” Elijah said.
“Seriously, I can’t continue to stay in that house. Just two days ago while sleeping, I woke up to hear strange noises in my room. As I looked closely, Brother, i saw two rats pacing the floor. They looked at me and laughed with the voice of a man. Elijah, Ah… I was gripped with great fear that I urinated on myself!” Dami said, frustration written all over his face.
“Hmmm, I know you are going through a lot as a result of your recent conversion from satanism. Let me ask you, do you want to go back?” Elijah asked him.
“Never! Elijah… Never!!! Me? Go back? I would rather die than enter that cage again! My life was in a terrible state before you met me and preached to me. I knew I was tough on you initially, but I was dying silently. Every night, I levitate. After each levitation, I get drained of energy. I would cry to my father. All he would say is that I should relax. I mean, I was being drained of life by those demons and yet he said I should relax?”
“I thank God for my encounter with you. I was already thinking of killing myself that day, because I didn’t want to experience another levitation and demonic torture that night. Your message that day brought a real relief to me, although it wasn’t easy for me to accept it due to the terrible war that was staged inside of me by the demons in me then, but I was already fed up with them.”
“I deliberately called on Jesus, just as you told me to do before sleeping that night. I had a sound sleep that I have never had for years. It was then I realized that there is indeed a power greater than the ones my father trusted in.” Dami said. He sat down and looked at Elijah.
“I know that I have been delivered from their constant harassments, but my father still want me to continue helping him in his fetish activities. This has been the battle I have been fighting since I gave my life to Jesus!” He said and kept quiet.
“Hmmm… It is well. Let us spend this night in prayer.” Elijah said, encouraging him.
They prayed that night.
The next day, Dami left Elijah’s house very early.
As he walked down the street leading to his house, he perceived a very strong and pungent smell coming from an uncompleted building.
“Hey, stop there!” A voice commanded him.
Immediately, he was surrounded by about 15 boys.
When they saw him, one of them said in Yoruba, “Omo baba ni yen oo” (this is baba’s child).
They left him and went back to the building.
Damilola was scared, he got up and hurriedly ran to his father’s compound. The early morning sun was already showing forth its smiling face as Dami entered.
“Welcome” Ronke said without any greeting.
“So you cannot even say ‘good morning’, Ronke?” Dami asked her.
“To who? You? Please, pack your face to one side jor.” she said arrogantly.
“Ronke, are you…” The word had not even left his mouth before she answered him.
“Close that your mouth before you turn to a deaf man this early morning. Just look at how weak you have become, Dami. Tell me, where is your God?” She asked him.
Damilola kept quiet.
“You don’t have any power to even stand the snap of my fingers. Dami, listen to me, YOUR GOD IS DEAD!” she said boldly and walked away.
Watch out for the Second Episode.

I think Damilola needs to leave his father’s house and go and find somewhere else to stay or go to live with the guy who led him to convert. He should be more prayerful.
